200th implantation of the custom designed OMX TMJ Prosthesis

July 2020

Melbourne-based design house for custom medical devices for oral and maxillofacial applications, OMX Solutions Pty Ltd is delighted to announce the 200th implantation of its custom designed temporomandibular joint (TMJ) replacement device, the OMX TMJ Prosthesis.

Mr George Dimitroulis, Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgeon, successfully performed the 200th OMX TMJ Prosthesis implant at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne in late June.

The OMX TMJ Prosthesis is an innovative joint replacement system that is fully customised to the patient and made possible by advanced 3D printing technologies.

The prosthesis is designed to replace a non-functional TMJ, restoring function, reducing pain and ultimately improving the patient’s quality of life. Utilising digital imaging and computer assisted design platforms, the OMX TMJ Prosthesis is custom designed to anatomically fit the patient. The design process also reduces the surgical risk of nerve damage.

It is exciting to be able to draw on our cumulative experience of over 200 implants that extend well beyond 4 years of real-world evidence”. Dr Dimitroulis also said “the applications of 3D printing technology were endless”.

OMX Solutions was established in 2016 and has a growing portfolio of bespoke medical devices for oral and maxillofacial applications including the new generation OMX TMJ Prosthesis the ArthroJaw, the OsseoFrame sub-periosteal implant system and TriFix custom plating system for the fixation of craniomaxillofacial (CMF) fractures and osteotomies.
